Where to eat in Gramercy on a Sunday
Sunday runs on its own timetable in Gramercy, and the listings do not always keep up. Look up italian restaurant gramercy on a Sunday morning and the hours attached to the results are frequently the weekday ones. The first door on this list opens at 10:30am and the last kitchen stops at 11pm. The Union Square Greenmarket, which sets the rhythm of a Saturday down here, does not run at all. What makes a Gramercy Sunday different
The Union Square Greenmarket is closed. GrowNYC lists it Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 8am to 6pm. That is the biggest practical difference between a Saturday and a Sunday down here: the crowd that walks up from the square with tote bags on a Saturday simply is not there, and the sidewalks on 18th and 19th Street are noticeably emptier before noon.
Afternoon drink windows mostly vanish too. Most of the published happy hours in this neighborhood run Monday to Friday only, which is why an afternoon plan that works on a Thursday falls apart on a Sunday. Pete’s Tavern lists its happy hour as Monday to Friday, 4pm to 6pm, even though the bar itself is open seven days.
Restaurant Week is the exception that runs the other way. The summer program runs 20 July to 16 August 2026 at $30, $45 and $60 prix-fixe tiers, and it operates Monday through Friday plus Sundays at select restaurants, with Saturdays excluded from the program entirely. Whether any individual room below serves its Restaurant Week menu on a Sunday is not something most of these sites state, so confirm it with the restaurant rather than assuming.

The 10:30 start is the earliest published Sunday service on this stretch, and the brunch runs a full five and a half hours, so a party that cannot agree on a time has an unusually wide target. The kitchen is Mediterranean rather than Italian. Good for an early group, or for a brunch that has drifted past 2pm and needs somewhere still serving.
Union Square Cafe, 101 East 19th Street
Brunch Saturday and Sunday 11am to 2:30pm, a midday service daily 2:30pm to 5pm, and dinner daily 5pm to 10:30pm. Three services with no gap between them is rare in this neighborhood, and it makes this the safest booking when you do not yet know whether the day will end at 3pm or 9pm. The strongest fit for a Sunday that is still being negotiated.
Tarallucci e Vino, 15 East 18th Street
Sunday 11am to 10:30pm, against an 8am start on weekdays. That later opening is worth knowing if you had a 9am coffee in mind, because on a Sunday this door is shut until 11. Once it opens it stays open, all day, through to 10:30pm. A block above Union Square, so it is the closest sit-down option to the 14th Street station. Consider it for a solo afternoon, or a meeting that needs a table for two hours.
Rezdôra, 27 East 20th Street
Saturday and Sunday 11:30am to 2:30pm, then 5pm to 11pm. A weekend midday service at a kitchen this booked is the practical way to eat here, and Sunday lunch is the less contested of the two weekend sittings. Emilia-Romagna pasta, between Broadway and Park Avenue South. Suited to a planned meal, since this is not a walk-in room.
Gramercy Tavern, 42 East 20th Street
The Tavern, the front room, lists every day 11:30am to 10:30pm. The Dining Room lists lunch 11:30am to 2:30pm and dinner 5pm to 10:30pm. Continuous service in the front room is the useful part on a Sunday, because it removes the 3pm problem that closes most of the corridor. Best suited to a walk-in nobody planned, and the front room is the door to try.
Paul & Jimmy’s, 123 East 18th Street
Sunday and Monday noon to 9pm, Tuesday to Saturday noon to 10pm. The Sunday close is an hour earlier than the rest of the week, which is the sort of detail that ruins an 8:45pm plan. It has been on this block since 1950 and it does not close between services, so a 3:30 arrival is fine. Good for an early Sunday dinner, or a long late lunch.
Pete’s Tavern, 129 East 18th Street at Irving Place
Open seven days, noon to 2am. The kitchen closes at 11pm Sunday through Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday. This is the latest Sunday food in the immediate neighborhood by a clear margin, and the bar keeps going for three hours after the kitchen stops. The building has been trading since 1864. The strongest fit for a late Sunday, or for a drink after everything else has locked up.

Novità, at 102 East 22nd Street, is a long-standing northern Italian room in this neighborhood, but its website does not publish opening hours for any day, Sunday included. We are not going to quote hours we cannot read on the restaurant’s own site, so if you want to go there on a Sunday, call first. The same caution applies to any listing you find on a third-party directory. Aggregator hours for this neighborhood are frequently out of date, and August is the month kitchens quietly adjust them.
Getting there on a Sunday
The 6 at 23rd Street and Park Avenue South is the closest stop to everything on 20th, 21st and 22nd Street, roughly five minutes on foot. The 14th Street Union Square station puts the 4, 5, 6, L, N, Q, R and W within about six minutes of the 18th and 19th Street addresses. Weekend service patterns change more often than weekday ones, so check before you rely on a specific line.
